Band Program Policies
A student may be removed from the band program if he/she violates any of the General Conduct Violations listed on pages 17-20 of the AISD Student Code of Conduct.
Students with behavior referrals will not participate in any end of year trips or activities as determined by the director.
Students must attend all required rehearsals, performances, and auditions for the year in order to be able to attend the spring trip.
7th and 8th grade students that miss the Pre-UIL Evaluation Concert will not be allowed to perform at the UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation Concert.
If a beginning band student falls excessively behind, he/she may have to repeat the beginning band class at the discretion of the director.
Grading Policy The grades for each class will be based on the following criteria:
Playing and written tests; Attendance at all performances; Before and/or after school rehearsals 40%
Practice Charts, Daily Participation 60%
The Holiday and Spring Concerts are the final exams for each semester and will be worth 2 test grades.
Practice Chart Policy Students are expected to devote 100 minutes of practice time each week (about 15 minutes a day). Weekly Practice Charts will be given out on Monday at the beginning of class and are due the following Monday. Charts will not be accepted after Wednesday.
Concert & Extra-Rehearsal Attendance Policy Attendance at concerts and extra rehearsals is mandatory. If there is a conflict between a band concert and another event (softball game or orthodontist appointment, for example), the student will not be excused from the concert. A missed performance will result in a written test for the missed grade with a maximum grade of 70. Students will have 2 days from the performance date to turn in the assignment
Daily Participation Every student is expected to have their instrument and all necessary materials everyday. In band, each lesson builds upon the previous day's lesson. If an instrument needs repair, the student must bring a copy of the invoice from the repair shop.
All-Region Band Auditions and Solo/Ensemble Contest All 7th and 8th grade students are expected to prepare and audition/perform for these events, which will count towards the students’ grade. What to do if you are sick If a student is too ill to play, but not too ill to be in school, he/she must still have their instrument, and I must have a signed note from the parent for that particular day. For that day only, the note will excuse the student from playing, but not from participating. Students can still participate in learning through music reading, fingering through the part on their instrument and listening.
Concert Performance Attire All students must purchase a red band polo as it is our performance “uniform.” Boys: red band polo, blacks slacks Girls: red band polo, black slacks or skirt; girls also have the option of wearing a black dress or black blouse/skirt; all skirts and dresses must be worn with black stockings

Students will be required to purchase their own reeds and supplies for Oboe, Bass Clarinet, Tenor/Bari saxophone, and Bassoon. Students that play school-owned French Horns, Baritones, and Tubas mustpurchase their own mouthpieces and supplies.
Band Hall Usage The band hall will be open for students to practice before school or after school at times TBA. Non-band students are not allowed in the band hall.
Six Flags Trip for 7th and 8th Grade Students Students must be eligible to attend this trip. Money earned via the fundraiser or paid in cash, check or money order cannot be returned to the parent. Referrals and/or poor behavior at any band function will result in the loss of privileges to attending future trips.
